Panel work is the trade underneath everything else an auto body shop does. Dents, fenders, bumpers, and the metal finishing that decides whether a repair stays invisible.

Dents split into two kinds

Press a fingernail at the low point. Unbroken paint with metal that has simply moved is a candidate for paintless repair, worked from behind the panel with the factory finish left alone. Cracked or chipped paint means the panel needs conventional repair and refinishing, because shaping does not put paint back.

We check that before quoting, since it is the difference between an afternoon and several days.

Metal first, filler last

A panel worked properly comes back close to its original shape in the steel itself, with filler truing only the final fraction. The shortcut is roughing the dent out and troweling filler across the low spot.

Both look identical the day you collect the vehicle. In Burnett County they diverge inside a few winters, when thick filler cracks under freeze and thaw and moisture finds the metal behind it.

Bumpers and fenders

Modern bumper covers are thermoplastic and many crack rather than dent. Plenty can be welded and reinforced from behind instead of replaced, which matters when the part is on backorder. Fit is the hard part either way: even gaps, correct height against the lamp, tabs engaged so nothing sags in July.
